Cheshire County Federal Credit Union was started as K.M.T.C. Employees Federal Credit Union in June of 1959. The Credit Union was an additional benefit that Kingsbury Machine Tool Corporation could offer prospective employees. The field of membership at that time was limited to employees of the manufacturing company and their immediate family members only.

When the credit union first opened, there were 10 member accounts, mostly supervisors and managers of KMTC. Members had to purchase 1 share at $5.00 each. Our services were simple share (savings) accounts and small loans.

The Credit Union has gone through many changes since we first opened in 1959. We have expanded our services substantially. One of the most important changes has been expanding our field of membership. We are no longer restricted to Kingsbury Corporation employees and family members. As of June 2005, membership is open to anyone who "lives, works, worships, or attends school" in Cheshire County.
